About Dairyland Insurance

Dairyland Insurance is a car and motorcycle insurance company based in Stevens Point, Wisconsin. The company was founded in 1953 to sell specialty insurance for drivers who can’t get standard coverage because of poor driving records, little experience behind the wheel, or no prior insurance. The focus on this driver pool continues today.

Dairyland was acquired by Sentry Insurance in 1966 and remains a subsidiary of this parent. In 2005 Sentry acquired auto insurer Viking Insurance and merged it with Dairyland, increasing the company’s coverage footprint, which currently includes 37 states.

Dairyland sells directly through its website and over the phone, as well as through a network of independent agents. Parent company Sentry Insurance is a mutual insurance company, meaning it is owned entirely by its policyholders, including those of Dairyland. Any profits earned by a mutual insurance company are either retained within the company or returned to policyholders in the form of dividend distributions or reduced future premiums.

Sentry is a diversified company, and in addition to offering car insurance through Dairyland, it also provides property and casualty insurance, workers' compensation, life insurance, and other business insurance, as well as non-insurance products like annuities and retirement programs.
